Some 460 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs is Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. A World Heritage Site since 1987, the park covers an area 132,566 hectares of arid scrub and is home to arguably Australia’s most famous icon – Uluru.

Aboriginal people have lived here for at least 22,000 years. They share the land with some of Australia’s rarest mammals such as the hairy-footed dunnart, the small sandhill dunnart and the mulgara.
