Where the South Alligator River and Jim Jim Creek meet is Yellow Water Wetlands. Teeming with a rich diversity of plants and animals, this landlocked billabong has long been an important food gathering place for local Aboriginal people.

At least 60 species of Australia's bird can be found in the wetlands of Kakadu National Park as well as large saltwater crocodiles, the world's largest reptile.
