The major character in the main (Anbangbang) rock gallery at Nawurlandja is Namondjok (pronounced Na-mon-jock). He committed incest with one of his clan sisters and later became Ginga, the great salt water crocodile.

To the right of Namondjok is Namarrgon, the lightning man. Namarrgon (pronounced Narm-arr-gon), still active today, is responsible for the spectacular lightning storms during the wet season.

The female figure is Barrginj (pronounced barr-jeen), Namarrgon's wife. Their children are the Alyurr, beautiful orange and blue grasshoppers (Leichhardt's grasshoppers) who gave the local Aboriginal people their language, beliefs, values and structure of their society during the Creation Time. Alyurr grasshoppers are only seen just before the onset of the wet season.
